'Young Stag' - hoop art
Treat yourself to a mini original!
This Wildlife Hoop Art, 'Young Stag', is in a 6 inch embroidery hoop backed with felt for a smooth finish. It comes with a ribbon hanger, which can be removed if you prefer to prop it up instead.
It is made from an acrylic painting onto cotton fabric, which I then sew over with threads and my sewing machine, gradually building up the layers until I am happy with the way it looks. I then cut it out and applique it to the background fabric before framing it with the hoop.
It is very tactile and the beauty of the hoop is that you can touch it as much as you want!
Enjoy your wildlife hoop art anywhere in your home, but hang out of direct sunlight to avoid fading.
About the Artist
My name is Jen Keavey and I am a textile artist. I live on the West Coast of Ireland in Co. Galway, and I am married to Kenneth of Green Earth Organics! I work from my home studio to create beautiful individual pieces of textile art.
This is also what inspired the name of my business. I am at my happiest in the woods, walking, sketching, taking photographs and just being present. Trees and art are deeply rooted within me and I wanted to make a statement about that with the name.
I take my inspiration from the natural world around me: from what I see out of the window, in the woods, around our organic farm, and the landscapes of the West Coast of Ireland. Creating what I see and feel brings me to a deep connection with the beauty of nature, from awe-inspiring cliffs to the delicate veins of a leaf. When you own a piece of my art you hold a part of that connection to nature and all the joy and wonder that it brings.
I create landscapes, seascapes, botanical art and animal art using my sewing machine as my drawing tool. My techniques include layering fabrics, raw edge applique, free motion stitching and hand embroidery. I sometimes add beads and shells. I particularly love the textures and patterns that fabrics can create. Many of my pieces are framed without the glass as they are so tactile; they invite you to touch. Each piece is one of a kind.
