Fine Art print - 'A Mother's Love', 1pc
I have always loved making things and over the years the urge to create
has grown stronger and stronger – so much so that I just had to stop and listen
to my inner-self. Now I work on my art full time and am truly in my happy
This is also what inspired the name of my business. I am at my happiest in the woods, walking, sketching, taking photographs and just being present. Trees and art are deeply rooted within me and I wanted to make a statement about that with the name.
I take my inspiration from the natural world around me: from what I see out of the window, in the woods, around our organic farm, and the landscapes of the West Coast of Ireland. Creating what I see and feel brings me to a deep connection with the beauty of nature, from awe-inspiring cliffs to the delicate veins of a leaf. When you own a piece of my art you hold a part of that connection to nature and all the joy and wonder that it brings.
I create landscapes, seascapes, botanical art and animal art using my sewing machine as my drawing tool. My techniques include layering fabrics, raw edge applique, free motion stitching and hand embroidery. I sometimes add beads and shells. I particularly love the textures and patterns that fabrics can create. Many of my pieces are framed without the glass as they are so tactile; they invite you to touch. Each piece is one of a kind.

‘A Mother’s Love’
A fine art print, giclee printed from an original textile art work created Jen Keavey (www.intothewoods.ie)
I designed this piece with Mother’s Day in mind, but it would make a lovely print for any time of the year, for yourself, or as a unique gift for a loved one.
The original textile artwork is created by layering up many small pieces of fabric to create interesting effects and textures. These are stuck in place and then sewed over using a sewing machine. The technique called free motion stitching is used, where the machine draws with the threads. In this case, as it stitches into the little pieces of fabric the edges ruffle and become frayed creating beautiful textures and effects. Fabrics are used as you would use paint, each little piece is like a brushstroke, another piece of the whole work. All the fabrics used are offcuts and unwanted bits and pieces that are too small for other creative people to use.
The print itself has been printed by professional fine art printers on hammered paper giving the surface a lovely texture.
