Skyscape 1 - Textile Art
Artist Jen Keavey says, 'This Skyscape series has been inspired by the incredible sunrises I have been fortunate enough to witness as I walk my dogs on the farm in the mornings. I am fascinated by clouds and light and the shapes made by the silhouettes of objects on the horizon. The ever changing sky is a source of infinite beauty, making me feel truly grateful to be alive.
This artwork is a celebration of the sky. A combination of fabric collage, free motion emboidery, and painting with inktense pencils. All work together to create a wonderful textured and eye catching piece. It is attached to a board which has a natural twine hanger and is signed by myself.
To make this piece I used my inktense pencils to create the sky. These are an excellent medium to use on fabric. I drew with them to build up the sky, then added a water wash over the top to activate them and blend the colours together. Once dry they are bright and permanent. Next I layered up fabric scraps and sewed them in place. I then 'drew' the silhouettes with my sewing machine using free motion embroidery.
The artwork measures 11inches x 6inches
It will come wrapped in acid free tissue paper to protect it.
Avoid hanging the piece in direct sunlight.
About the Artist
About the Artist
My name is Jen Keavey and I am a textile artist. I live on the West Coast of Ireland in Co. Galway, and I am married to Kenneth of Green Earth Organics! I work from my home studio to create beautiful individual pieces of textile art.
This is also what inspired the name of my business. I am at my happiest in the woods, walking, sketching, taking photographs and just being present. Trees and art are deeply rooted within me and I wanted to make a statement about that with the name.
I take my inspiration from the natural world around me: from what I see out of the window, in the woods, around our organic farm, and the landscapes of the West Coast of Ireland. Creating what I see and feel brings me to a deep connection with the beauty of nature, from awe-inspiring cliffs to the delicate veins of a leaf. When you own a piece of my art you hold a part of that connection to nature and all the joy and wonder that it brings.
I create landscapes, seascapes, botanical art and animal art using my sewing machine as my drawing tool. My techniques include layering fabrics, raw edge applique, free motion stitching and hand embroidery. I sometimes add beads and shells. I particularly love the textures and patterns that fabrics can create. Many of my pieces are framed without the glass as they are so tactile; they invite you to touch. Each piece is one of a kind.
