The fox is in a 6 inch embroidery hoop by artist Jen Keavey, backed with felt for a smooth finish. It comes with a cotton hanger, which can be removed if you prefer to prop it up instead.
It is made using free motion embroidery, where I draw using my sewing machine. It is then painted using high quality watercolours and inks, before being handsewn into a hoop.
It is very tactile and the beauty of the hoop is that you can touch it as much as you want!
Hang out of direct sunlight to avoid fading.
There is a moment of connection, when you notice a wild creature, and they notice you. This vixen is watching you watching her, waiting to see what you will do. When you move, she turns and is gone with a flash of her white tipped tail.
With this portrait Jen encourages you to feel awe and wonder at the world all around us, above us, below us. To stop and pause and be more aware, to open your eyes and really see, and feel the joy that seeing brings.
As John Muir says, ‘I only went out for a walk… for going out, I found, was really going in.’
About the Artist
My name is Jen Keavey and I am a textile artist. I live on the West Coast of Ireland in Co. Galway, and I am married to Kenneth of Green Earth Organics! I work from my home studio to create beautiful individual pieces of textile art.
I have always loved making things and over the years the urge to create has grown stronger and stronger – so much so that I just had to stop and listen to my inner-self. Now I work on my art full time and am truly in my happy place. This is also what inspired the name of my business. I am at my happiest in the woods, walking, sketching, taking photographs and just being present. Trees and art are deeply rooted within me and I wanted to make a statement about that with the name.I take my inspiration from the natural world around me: from what I see out of the window, in the woods, around our organic farm, and the landscapes of the West Coast of Ireland. Creating what I see and feel brings me to a deep connection with the beauty of nature, from awe-inspiring cliffs to the delicate veins of a leaf. When you own a piece of my art you hold a part of that connection to nature and all the joy and wonder that it brings.I create landscapes, seascapes, botanical art and animal art using my sewing machine as my drawing tool. My techniques include layering fabrics, raw edge applique, free motion stitching and hand embroidery. I sometimes add beads and shells. I particularly love the textures and patterns that fabrics can create. Many of my pieces are framed without the glass as they are so tactile; they invite you to touch. Each piece is one of a kind.To see more of my work please visit www.intothewoods.ie. If you see something you like which is not in the Green Earth Organics shop please contact me and I will arrange to have it added to your order.
