The first of our own tomatoes
It has felt like a long wait but finally the heat we have been waiting for has arrived. This has done wonders on the farm and our own fresh produce is now where it should be. We are harvesting bucket loads, really trailer loads of fresh produce off the farm and the list of items increases daily.
We have been growing for nearly ten years now and each year I still forget how suddenly the farm becomes an active nest of food harvesting and how good it all tastes. You can really taste the difference, it is fresh and wonderful, and obviously there are all the other benefits, such as the reassurance that there are no chemicals on your food, that the crops have been produced with the greatest respect for the land, and that organic food is a better and fairer way to grow food.
One other major benefit is that the boxes are jammed full of our own produce, they really are, and the value is excellent. If you want to be sure that you are eating really healthy clean local food then one of our seasonal boxes is the easiest way to do it. You don’t even have to think about it.
There is fantastic large heads of fresh lettuce, gorgeously strong scallions, the first of the really good summer cabbage, our own broccoli, amazing wild rocket. Try one of our own cucumbers and do a taste test with an imported one. In the superfood category how about fresh bunched beetroot, or crunchy tasty green curly kale, soft spinach and of course there is also the king of kales, cavolo nero sought after by restaurants for its buttery nutty flavour.
Our own new potatoes are only a week off, and carrots close behind. We have a sneaky few of our own cherry tomatoes and French beans on the online shop, and of course some excellent purple kohlrabi from Dunmore!
So it really is the harvest season, so please don’t forget about us, every year it is the same the holiday season coincides with the true beginning of the farm harvest. This is the time when you can get the very best taste and value, but many of you are heading off to warmer climates. Please tell you friends, your neighbours, your pets! About us. We really can do with your help especially now that we have such great stuff to sell.
With that plea for help out of the way I thought it would be good to give you a little glimpse into one of our tunnels, in this very short video you have a 1 minute behind the scenes look at what is happening in one of our tomato tunnels at the moment.
So enjoy your time away if you are lucky enough to be off, and if not keep your health at the top of your priority list, and eat well.
Thanks
Kenneth
